(Re)Making Interactive Books
Created for educational purposes, these interactive books explore new ways of learning through storytelling, traditional crafts, and contemporary technologies. Threads of Tradition introduces Armenian myths and cultural heritage through handmade textiles, embroidery, and augmented reality, while the Interactive First Aid Book for Children teaches essential first aid knowledge through tactile materials, illustrations, and hands-on activities.
Workshop & Exhibition: Interactive Books — From Storytelling to Making This workshop introduces two educational projects: Threads of Tradition, an interactive textile book inspired by Armenian myths and cultural heritage, and the Interactive First Aid Book for Children, which transforms essential first aid knowledge into a tactile and playful learning experience. Participants will first explore the stories behind the projects, discovering how traditional crafts, textiles, digital fabrication, and interactive technologies can be combined to create engaging educational tools. The session will then move into hands-on making, inviting participants to experiment with materials, techniques, and creative approaches to developing their own interactive learning objects. Throughout the workshop, we will explore the tools, materials, technical processes, and facilitation methods involved in creating these books, with a focus on how similar activities can be adapted for children and young people in makerspaces and educational settings. Participants will gain practical experience and inspiration to develop and facilitate their own creative, hands-on learning workshops. A session for librarians, schools, youth organisations and makerspace facilitators exploring how to create interactive educational books using textiles, digital fabrication, and storytelling, with practical ideas they can apply in their own makerspaces.
