Wildlife Leaflets

Are animals cisgender and straight ? That's what animal documentaries would make us believe. Wildlife Leaflets is a series of three short videos in which animals ‘hack’ the documentaries they are the subject of, to assert their queerness with fervour and humour.

The installation consists of a CRT TV and an old armchair. Three short videos are playing on a loop on the TV. These are from Wildlife Leaflets, created using the videogrep program. Through video collage, this film offers a counter-discourse rooted in technology about the human-animal relationship and a rigid, outdated understanding of gender. Videogrep allows Dossmann to appropriate essentialist discourses, subvert them, and tell my own story. This new version of wildlife documentaries embraces a homemade, grassroots approach and aesthetic.
