A. Tinne Vereeck (born in Antwerp, 1964) Professional artist and curator specialising in monumental oil paintings that combine traditional and contemporary techniques. Trained as a fine artist and mentored by Gommaar Gilliams, Greet Van Autgaerden and Stien De Meulenaere.
I am currently working on a series of antique books that are being reworked using found materials. This work is then displayed digitally. This creates a link between the analogue creation of Bibles with a spiritual undertone and the depiction of another world, in the hope that faith in humanity will be restored. For me, the digital presentation of my work highlights just how far we have strayed from the principles that bind us together as human beings and make life worth living. At present, books are simply copied and digitised. For me, the task of an artist is to make that collection of wisdom – as found in books – tangible once again. Through my work, I wish to make a statement about this digitisation.
