Verstrikt Performance
The performance “Verstrikt”, created by Jinte De Greef (textile work, concept), Grim Mignon (performer) and Oona Geelen (live music), is a dark, unsettling and nihilistic performance that will unfold from a textile work made from recycled fabric. In the performance, we depict a cycle of destruction – a sacrifice of our humanity – which will consist of two parts: the dark destruction (the performance) and the collective restoration of it (restoration workshops).
At the heart of our performance lies the textile installation; ideally, this is displayed as a continuous installation which we bring to life through the performance ‘Verstrikt’ and the ‘Repair Workshops’ (time slots for the performance and workshop). We would therefore like to organise a separate performance (lasting approximately 30 minutes) for people to come and watch; this takes place within the textile installation itself (we incorporate movement and live music). We’ll also organise a workshop where people can physically repair the textile installation (by helping to tie knots in it). These two elements are therefore part of the overall installation ‘Verstrikt’. Specifically, we would like to organise a continuous installation, performance and workshop. You can find a general description below. If anything is unclear, please feel free to contact me at any time! The performance “Verstrikt”, created by Jinte De Greef (textile work, concept), Grim Mignon (performer) and Oona Geelen (live music), is a dark, unsettling and nihilistic performance. It will unfold from a textile installation made from recycled textiles. The textile installation serves as a collection point where people can bring their old, discarded and damaged textiles. Our performance stems from this need to raise awareness about the overconsumption of clothing and global warming. In it, we depict a cycle of destruction, an offering of our humanity that will consist of two parts: the dark destruction (performance), and the collective restoration of this (repair workshops). The dark destruction (performance) A parasite (performer, Grim) moves through a womb-like world (the textile installation); he attempts to nest but causes unseen damage. His environment becomes unliveable and a drive for escape, power and control takes hold. In this demonic environment, the live music is the only thing keeping the parasite in check. What happens once this connection is severed? What is a human being when all humanity is stripped away? Collective restoration (the restoration workshops) The second part of the cycle of destruction consists of the restoration workshops, in which we will physically restore the textile work. These focus on collective healing, connection and participation. Every participant in the workshop will become part of the cycle of destruction: collective restoration, connection and mutual support following a difficult period of destruction.
