Printpaviljoen
The Print Pavilion is a mobile live screen-printing collective based in Brussels and the surrounding area. We built a portable pavilion ourselves using scaffolding tubes: it serves as both our studio and our stage. We use it to organise print parties at festivals and in public spaces, including at Waking Life (Portugal) and Paradise City. For this festival, we are collaborating with Marie Colombeen, a visual artist and researcher based in Ghent whose practice centres on ecological materials and recycling.
We’re setting up the pavilion as a live screen-printing workshop. Visitors can bring their own T-shirt or choose a second-hand one from us, and watch their design take shape right there and then. Together with Marie, we’re looking for a more sustainable alternative to plastisol ink – the most polluting part of screen printing – and we’ll be testing plant-based ink during the festival. This makes it both a creative process and an experiment: reused T-shirts, a craft you can watch being practised live, and material research that you can wear yourself. The designs are created in collaboration with members of the print pavilion, Marie and the organisers.
