Patch it yourself – Why Tech?
Patch it yourself – does it have to be digital? Design your own clothing patches at this interactive stand! Experiment with digital tools such as the vinyl cutter, or opt for traditional techniques like cutting, sewing and embroidering by hand using fabric offcuts. Discover how to repair and upcycle old clothes in a creative and sustainable way, with or without advanced machinery. The key question: When does technology really add value for you?
At this interactive stand, visitors create their own patches to repair or personalise clothing. They choose their own materials and designs and get to work using a vinyl cutting machine, a sewing machine or simple manual techniques such as cutting, sewing and embroidery. Old clothes and fabric offcuts form the starting point. Does it have to be digital? That is the central question. Visitors compare digital techniques, such as cutting flex foil, with working by hand using a needle, thread and scissors. Which technique delivers the desired result? When does technology add value, and when is it superfluous?
